VC Collet Chuck

Thursday, May 25, 2017

With guaranteed run out accuracy of 0.0001″ or better, the VC collet chuck is ideal for any high precision application.

Watch the video to see how easy it is to assemble a VC collet chuck and useful tips.

The Lyndex-Nikken VC (Vibration Control) Collet Chuck is specifically engineered for high-precision milling applications where surface finish and tool life are the primary performance metrics. While standard collet systems are suitable for general-purpose work, the VC system is designed to bridge the gap between traditional holding and high-end hydraulic or shrink-fit technology.

Advanced Vibration Dampening Technology

The “VC” in the name stands for Vibration Control, a critical feature for modern CNC machining.

  • The Dampening Mechanism: The VC series utilizes a specialized internal geometry and a thick-walled body design that naturally absorbs the micro-vibrations generated during high-speed cutting.

  • Surface Finish Impact: By neutralizing these harmonics at the source, the VC chuck ensures that the cutting tool remains stable, resulting in “mirror-like” surface finishes that often eliminate the need for secondary grinding or polishing operations.

  • Extended Tool Life: Vibration is a leading cause of micro-chipping in carbide end mills. The stability provided by the VC system can extend tool life by up to 30%, significantly reducing your annual tooling spend.

High-Precision Clamping and Runout Accuracy

Concentricity is the foundation of precision. The VC system is manufactured to deliver runout accuracy of less than 3 microns at 3x the diameter.

  • 8-Degree Taper Design: Much like the SK series, the VC chuck utilizes a shallower taper than the standard ER system. This ensures a higher degree of surface contact and a more symmetrical clamping force around the tool shank.

  • Heavy-Duty Clamping Nut: The VC nut is designed to provide high gripping torque without the distortion often seen in lower-quality holders. This makes it an ideal choice for aggressive roughing as well as delicate finishing.

Optimizing for High-Speed Machining (HSM)

As spindle speeds continue to climb, the balance of the tool holder becomes a safety and quality factor.

  • Precision Balanced: Every VC holder is balanced to G2.5 at 25,000 RPM as standard. This prevents spindle wear and ensures that the tool remains on the programmed path even at maximum velocity.

  • Coolant Integration: The VC system is fully compatible with high-pressure coolant-through applications, essential for chip evacuation in deep-cavity milling and high-temp alloy machining.
