Proper Care Can Increase

Milling Chuck Life



Nikken's Milling Chucks are world-renown for their rigidity, accuracy and gripping torque. Did you know that following some simple steps could greatly increase the life of your Milling Chucks?
  • Keep Your Milling Chucks Clean
    Debris caught in between the chuck, collet and cutting tool can not only reduce chuck life, but it can compromise accuracy and gripping torque as well. Before inserting a cutting tool into your Milling Chuck, make sure the bore, collet ID and collet OD are free of dust, chips, coolant and other debris. Clean the collet slots with compressed air.


  • Store your Milling Chucks Properly
    When your Milling Chucks are not in use, be sure to:
    • Loosen the chuck ring and remove the collet and cutting tool.
    • Coat the Chucks and collets with a rust-preventing oil.






  • Don't Over Tighten Your Milling Chucks

    • Too much tightening torque can place undue stress on the Milling Chuck's internal components. Follow this procedure to ensure proper tightening of your Milling Chucks:
    • After inserting the cutting tool and collet into the Milling Chuck, tighten the chuck ring slightly by hand.
    • Using the proper spanner, tighten the Milling Chuck until the chuck ring makes contact with the chuck body.
    • Finally, make sure to loosen the chuck ring slightly (2 - 3 degrees).
