MULTI LOCK MILLING CHUCK – RIGIDITY & DURABILITY FOR AGGRESSIVE MACHINING

A group of Multi Lock Milling Chucks are arranged upright, with collets and a spanner wrench placed in front of them on a white background.Nikken invented the milling chuck in 1963, and they have never stopped improving upon its original design. As a result, the Multi Lock milling chuck is the strongest mechanically gripping holder (up to 3,500 ft-lbs.) and therefore is still the most reliable and powerful toolholder available today.

Featuring multi-roller bearings, spiral coolant slots, and a heavy-duty nut, the Multi Lock milling chuck provides:

  • Extreme gripping torque and durability – 140% more needle rollers than others, ideal for aggressive milling applications
  • Immense gripping strength – thick nut collapses tight taper on milling chuck body
  • Strong support for aggressive cutting – added dampening capability with solid 4340 forging construction
  • High pressure and volume of coolant during high RPM operations – inner bore coolant slots project coolant at 2 degrees
  • Superior runout accuracy – within 5 microns at 4” out

Nikken’s patented Multi Lock milling chuck design allows clamping force to be distributed evenly around the entire cutting tool shank. Gripping force up to 3,500 ft-lbs. can be applied ensuring optimal cutting performance and rigidity.

MULTI LOCK MILLING CHUCK FEATURES

Frost covers the top and upper sections, showing the sub-zero cryogenic treatment process. All milling chucks are cryogenically treated after heat treatment to stabilize concentrations of carbon. This prevents deformation and cracking when under stress for the life of the toolholder.

COMPARISON: MILLING CHUCK VS. END MILL HOLDER

The Nikken Multi Lock milling chuck is a renowned universal toolholder that has proven its efficiency for years all over the world. Featuring a revolutionary design and collet system, the Nikken Multi Lock milling chuck allows for high-speed applications up to 25,000 RPM and offers incredible benefits compared to standard end mill holders such as higher accuracy and higher concentricity for any milling application.

MILLING CHUCK COLLET SYSTEM PROVIDES STRONG GRIPPING FORCE & RIGIDITY

A diagram showing a Multi Lock Milling Chuck tool holder on the left, connected by a blue line to six different interchangeable collet types.Nikken Multi Lock milling chuck collets provide uniform contact with cutting tool shanks manufactured with the most stringent specifications. When using with shanks that have h7 tolerance, the collets produce much more gripping force and rigidity than traditional taper collets.

Whether you need to help maintain gripping force, eliminate taper tolerance variation between mating surfaces, prevent swarf and chips from packing on the collet face, keep high pressure coolant aimed toward the periphery of the cutter, remove chips during deep pocketing applications, or channel high pressure coolant to different cutter points, we have a coolant collet system for you. The Multi Lock milling chuck coolant collet system is available in coolant-thru, coolant-thru nut, jet-slotted nut, and coolant nut with adjustable nozzles.

Multi Lock milling chucks are also flexible as smaller size cutting tools can be held using reduction collets.

TAPER PLUS (DUAL CONTACT) AVAILABILITY

Multi Lock milling chucks are available in Taper Plus (dual contact) and provide the following benefits:

DUAL Taper & Flange Contact Advantages

A technical illustration of a taper inside a spindle showing flange and taper contact points highlighted in yellow, with an inset logo labeled Taper Plus.

  • High rigidity for smooth and stable cutting
  • Vibration dampening for increased productivity
  • Outstanding runout accuracy for longer tool life
  • Interchangeable between standard and dual face contact spindles for greater flexibility

The Power of the Dampening Effect

  • Taper and flange contact establishes 53% more surface area contact than just the taper alone, creating a dampening effect that eliminates chatter and vibration
  • With the additional flange contact becoming a supportive cantilever, cutting rigidity is highly improved

High Quality Taper Grinding (AT3 or better taper tolerance)

A close-up view of a Multi Lock Milling Chuck tool holder with a cutting tool inserted at the bottom. Red arrows point to the flange area of the holder, highlighting a specific feature or direction.

  • All 40 taper tool angles are manufactured within +/-.0011 degrees’ angular tolerance
  • Largest diameter of taper (where rigidity is established) is held within +/- 80 millionths (.00008”)
  • Precision ground taper ensures 80% or better taper contact

Taper Plus toolholders are interchangeable between standard and dual face contact spindles for greater flexibility.
