Phil Linscheid, Hamilton Company Testimonial
Phil Linscheid, Director of Manufacturing, at Hamilton Company manufactures medical products and other types of products that handle fluids. When Hamilton added a lot of high-precision machines to their shop, he needed to up their game with a trusted brand that had more reliable toolholders. They used to use ER collet chucks but upgraded to Lyndex-Nikken’s SK collet chucks as they couldn’t have runout with their new 20,000 RPM machines. The SK collet chuck provides high machining accuracy due to flat shoulder pushing. This is achieved with the combination of the simple and rigid Titanium Nitrided (TiN) Bearing Nut and 8-degree taper. Due to the complexity of some of their parts, Phil also uses Lyndex-Nikken shrink fit holders as shrink fit is ideal due to clearance and accuracy. Previously Hamilton Company used right angle heads from a different brand, and they had to buy up to 5 of them as the preventative maintenance schedule was never met by that supplier. Now, exclusively using Lyndex-Nikken right angle heads, surface finish of the parts is improved and the preventative maintenance schedule is right on time. Watch the video to hear more from Phil!
Hamilton Company is a global leader in the design and manufacture of liquid handling, process analytics, and automated storage solutions. In this testimonial, Phil Linscheid discusses how the partnership with Lyndex-Nikken has been instrumental in maintaining the extreme precision and repeatability required for their specialized laboratory equipment.
The Challenge: Micro-Precision in Liquid Handling
Manufacturing components for automated laboratory systems requires a level of accuracy that leaves no room for error. For Hamilton Company, the primary challenges included:
Sub-Micron Tolerances: Producing intricate parts for fluid bypass and sampling systems that must operate with 100% reliability.
Material Integrity: Machining high-grade stainless steels and specialized plastics without compromising surface finish or structural stability.
Scalability: Maintaining consistent quality across high-volume production runs to meet the demands of the global healthcare and research markets.
The Solution: High-Performance Tool Holding and Rotary Tables
By integrating Lyndex-Nikken’s advanced tooling solutions, Hamilton Company achieved a more rigid and stable machining environment. Key elements of the solution included:
Precision Collet Systems: Utilizing high-accuracy collet chucks to minimize runout, which is critical when using small-diameter drills and end mills.
Nikken Rotary Tables: Implementing 4th and 5th-axis solutions to allow for complex multi-sided machining in a single setup, reducing handling errors.
Vibration Dampening: The superior construction of Lyndex-Nikken holders helps eliminate chatter, ensuring the “mirror-like” surface finishes required for medical-grade components.
Impact on the Life Sciences Industry
The collaboration between Hamilton Company and Lyndex-Nikken ensures that the tools used to manufacture life-saving laboratory equipment are as precise as the science they support. By prioritizing high-quality tool-to-spindle interfaces, Hamilton continues to set the standard for innovation in liquid handling, helping researchers and clinicians around the world achieve faster, more accurate results.
